Sunday School runs from Labor Day through Memorial Day. Class is an hour long, from 9:00am through 10:00am. We begin class with a Bible trivia game and then get into the lesson. The teaching time is centered in the Bible and generally involves studying a book of the Bible or an overview of a Bible topic.
We meet weekly for Bible study and games. Our schedule follows fairly close to the local school calendar. We meet from 6:15pm - 8:45pm. We play games, eat food, and interact with God's Word in relevant and challenging ways.
Powerline, our Jr. high age group, focuses on the confirmation material coupled with a survey of the Bible in order to provide the students with a foundation on which to build their faith. Homework and additional meeting may be required from those who desire to be confirmed. Firewire, our Sr. high age group, uses small groups to help students apply the God's truths to their everyday lives by engaging in discussions with their peers and an adult leader who can connect the discussions with the Bible.
Special activities take place throughout the year, often on weekends. The purposes of these events are to have fun, to promote group unity, to serve as outreach, or to accomplish an act of service. Details about these events become available on our calendar as they are planned.
The Gilboa Labor Day weekend retreat is the kick off event to begin our fall schedule. We camp at the Kitchin Retreat Center in Gilboa, NY. The weekend is for Sr. High students. Descriptions of this weekend are available on the Gilboa page.We participate in three LBYF sponsored events each year. There are two regional rallies, one in the spring the other in the fall, hosted by different youth groups from sister churches. These rallies bring together as many as 200 teens from across the northeast. The third even is called Winter Weekend. This event comes in Jr. High and Sr. High varieties. The Jr. High WW takes place the last weekend in January, the Sr. High WW takes place on Presidents weekend in February. Theses winter retreats draw up to 500 kids . The Winter Weekends take place at Tuscarora Inn (who also sponsors a teen week retreat the third week of July every year). Nationally know speakers and talented musicians are coupled with sports tournaments and great winter fun.
